Psalm 8:1 and 8:9

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Oh, to consider all that this Psalm has in store for us. First, as we see in verse 1, His name is suddenly and abruptly proclaimed like the loud blast of a trumpet that calls into the dawning of a new day. “O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.” And what a great name it is. He is Creator, the Lord our God. He is majestic and reigns supremely overall on the earth. His glory is as high as the heavens above. And no one can compare to Him. He is overall. Yet, it is a multitude of children that comes to give praise and glory to His name. A child’s sweet, innocent worship of God will stop and silence the enemy. Oh, how we need to be part of that legion of scions who are lifting up their voices in worship of their King, Jesus Christ the Lord.

Secondly, we know that God is infinite in his love and mercy. He blesses His children. “And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified” (Romans 8:30). Therefore, having received this great, precious promise, we too were regenerated by the Holy Spirit of God and believe in the one and only Son of God. In Christ, we are saved. The old passed away and we became new. We were transported from the filth and mire of corruption, to become children of God. At creation, we bear His image. But now, because of the grace of God through faith in Him, we share His name as followers of Christ, Christians. And we forever have an imprint of His divine character in our lives through the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit. So now, we can join this choir of children’s voices who lift up the praises of His name. “

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.” Charles Spurgeon summed this up well when he said,

Here, like a good composer, the poet returns to his key-note, falling back, as it were, into his first state of wondering adoration. What he started with as a proposition in the first verse, he closes with as a well proven conclusion, with a sort of quod erat demonstrandum [that which is demonstrated]. O for grace to walk worthy of that excellent name which has been named upon us, and which we are pledged to magnify!

><> ><> Prayer <>< <><

O LORD, my Lord, how majestic is your name over all the earth! With joy,  I come with thanksgiving to praise and worship you, my Lord God and Savior. Without you in my life, I am nothing; I am shipwrecked. But with you, I am a child of God with one desire, to know Christ and to be like him in my service to others and to my church. Help me, O Lord, when I fall. Help me always to bring glory to your name, I Jesus’s Name, I pray, amen!
